Tell us about your morning routine.
My morning routine doesn’t begin with meditation, yoga, or a glass of warm lemon water beside a window overlooking the mountains. It begins with something far less glamorous: the sound of a household waking up and a mother mentally checking off seventeen things before her first cup of coffee.
There are no perfectly arranged breakfast bowls, no colour-coded schedules, and certainly no cinematic sunrise moments. Just the everyday adventure of getting the children ready for school, making sure everyone has what they need, and hoping that nobody announces a missing notebook five minutes before leaving.
Mornings in a family are a little like managing a railway station. Everyone has a destination, someone is running late, and somehow, the person in charge is expected to know where everything is!
As the children finally head off to school, the house begins to settle into a different rhythm. The morning rush slowly fades, leaving behind the occasional forgotten object, a few unfinished chores, and the quiet satisfaction of having successfully launched another day.
Then comes my transition from mother-on-duty to woman-at-work. I sit down to begin my professional responsibilities, carrying the invisible checklist of home along with the visible tasks waiting on my screen.
I’ve realised that not every meaningful morning needs an elaborate routine. Sometimes, productivity wears comfortable clothes, has slightly messy hair, and answers three questions while trying to remember where the keys were kept.
“Some mornings don’t give us a moment to find ourselves; they simply ask us to show up for everyone else.”
And perhaps that is not entirely a bad thing. There is love hidden in packed lunches, care tucked into reminders, and responsibility woven into the smallest tasks. Ordinary mornings may not look impressive on social media, but they quietly hold families together.
Of course, I wouldn’t mind occasionally replacing the morning chaos with a peaceful breakfast and uninterrupted coffee. A woman can dream!
Until then, my routine remains beautifully ordinary: children, responsibilities, work, and the determination to take the day as it comes.
Because life isn’t always about creating a perfect morning. Sometimes, it’s about finding a little grace in an imperfect one.
Thought to ponder
If we stopped measuring our mornings by how peacefully they begin, could we start appreciating them for all the love and life they contain?
