What’s something you’ve done that you never thought you could?
Sometimes, the bravest journeys begin with a railway ticket and a slightly nervous heart.
What is something you have done that made you think, “Wait a minute, was that really me?”
Life has a funny way of surprising us. Sometimes, we do things in the heat of the moment and later feel proud of ourselves. Other times, we wonder whether our brain briefly went on vacation without informing us!
I am a person who likes to have things planned. I prefer knowing what comes next rather than allowing life to throw unexpected plot twists at me. My mind likes itineraries, not mysteries.
Yet, recently, I did something I never imagined myself doing so comfortably. I travelled alone by train to visit a friend.
For some, it might sound ordinary. For me, it was a little victory wrapped in a railway ticket.
I have always wanted to go on a solo trip, explore new places, and experience the freedom of travelling at my own pace. Travelling with family is wonderful, but travelling alone is an entirely different story. There is nobody to ask, “Are we getting down here?” or blame when you miss the correct platform. You become the planner, navigator, decision-maker, and emergency Google Maps!
As someone who tends to depend on others, I wanted to challenge myself. I wanted to discover whether I could manage things independently without mentally calling a family meeting for every small decision.
And guess what? I could!
The journey turned out to be beautiful. Watching the world pass through the train window, enjoying my own company, and managing everything myself gave me a quiet sense of happiness. I wasn’t just travelling towards my friend’s home; I was travelling towards a more confident version of myself.
As the saying goes, “Courage doesn’t always roar; sometimes it simply books a ticket.”
I realised that independence doesn’t mean never needing anyone. It means trusting yourself enough to try.
Perhaps my next adventure will be a solo trip to somewhere unfamiliar. For now, I am happy that I took the first step.
Sometimes, the person we need to discover most is the one sitting quietly inside us, waiting for us to say, “Come on, let’s go!”

A Thought to Ponder
What if the life you dream of begins just beyond the thing you believe you cannot do?
