The genie grants you a wish. What is it?
Imagine rubbing an old, dusty lamp and watching a genie š§emerge in a cloud of smoke, looking at you with a generous smile.
“Congratulations! You have one wish. Anything. Absolutely anything!”
And there I stand, suddenly suffering from the most serious case of decision paralysis in human history.
A thousand wishes rush into my head. A world tour? Unlimited money? A magical house where the laundry folds itself? Perhaps a lifetime supply of chocolate that doesn’t come with guilt or a dentist’s warning!
My mind has officially declared a wish-selection marathon, and every contestant is screaming for attention.
But then, amidst this grand competition of impossible desires, one quiet thought raises its hand.
“I just want a peaceful, balanced life.”
The genie blinks. Once. Twice.
“That’s it? Just one wish?”
Oh, dear genie! If only you knew what you had signed up for.šš
To give me a peaceful life, you might have to silence the endless noise of overthinking, reduce my mountain of responsibilities, organise my chaotic schedule, send my worries on a permanent vacation and perhaps convince my alarm clock to stop behaving like a personal enemy.
And while you’re at it, could you please make the people around me a little more understanding? Don’t worry, that’s just a tiny additional request disguised as a footnote!
As the saying goes, “Peace is not the absence of chaos, but the ability to remain calm within it.”
Somewhere between our endless ambitions and daily struggles, we forget that peace is not a luxury reserved for people who have everything. It is a feeling we crave even when life looks perfectly ordinary from the outside.
I am reminded of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, where Santiago’s journey teaches us about dreams, discovery and the importance of listening to our hearts. Sometimes, the greatest treasure isn’t a distant destination but the wisdom we gather along the way.
And perhaps my wish is not really about changing the world. Maybe it is about changing how I experience it.
If wishes were feathers, I’d build a sky,
Where weary thoughts could learn to fly.
I’d ask the winds to soften their race,
And gift my restless heart some space.
Not a life where storms never appear,
But the courage to meet them without fear.
Perhaps that is what a balanced life truly means. Not a life without deadlines, disappointments or unexpected plot twists, but one where joy and responsibility can sit at the same table without fighting over the last chair.
By now, the genie is probably updating his rƩsumƩ. He came prepared to grant magical wishes, not to become a life coach, personal assistant and emotional support system all in one!
But before he disappears, I would tell him one last thing: “Don’t make my life perfect. Just make it meaningful, with enough laughter to survive the imperfections.”

A thought to ponder:
If you could have everything you ever wished for but had no peace to enjoy it, would you still consider yourself lucky?
