The Curious Hunger Called Love

If scientists ever invent a machine that measures human cravings, I am quite sure one thing will top the list — not pizza, not chocolate, not even Wi-Fi — but love.

Yes, love.

Human beings seem to carry an invisible bowl inside their hearts that constantly whispers, “Refill, please.”

From the moment a baby is born, the first thing it looks for is not a toy, not a career plan, not a motivational podcast. It looks for arms. Warm ones. Safe ones.

Because love is our first language.

“Before we learn to speak, we learn to belong.”

Think about it. A child proudly shows a scribbled drawing to their parents not because it’s Picasso-level art, but because they want that magical sentence:
“Wow, you did great!”

A teenager pretends not to care about anyone’s opinion but secretly checks their phone every five minutes hoping someone special has messaged.

Adults are no different. We simply hide our craving better behind job titles, responsibilities, and grocery lists.

“Every human heart is secretly a small café waiting for someone to sit and stay.”

We want appreciation from our boss, attention from our partner, understanding from our friends, and approval from our parents. Even the toughest-looking person melts when someone says, “I’m proud of you.”

Why?

Because love is emotional oxygen.

Without it, people may survive, but they rarely feel alive.

Psychologists say the brain releases dopamine and oxytocin when we feel loved. But honestly, you don’t need a neuroscience lecture to understand it. Just notice how a simple hug can fix a terrible day faster than a motivational speech.

“Love is the only medicine that people willingly overdose on.”

The funny part is that while everyone wants love, many people are scared to express it.

We hesitate.

We delay.

We assume the other person already knows.

And sometimes we wait until birthdays, anniversaries, or dramatic movie scenes to say things that should probably be said on an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the heart keeps its bowl ready.

Waiting.

Hoping.

Craving.

Because deep down, every human carries the same quiet wish:

To be seen.
To be valued.
To matter to someone.

“At the end of the day, people may forget your words, your job title, or your achievements — but they never forget how loved you made them feel.”

So perhaps the real mystery isn’t why people crave love.

The real mystery is why we ration something that the heart naturally produces in unlimited supply.

Thought to ponder

If every human is craving love, what would the world look like if we simply stopped waiting to receive it… and started giving it freely?

  1. Love 💕? Most of us are running on “probational” emotion…if you can deliver, you can have some. Else not.
We’re running on ‘reserve’ most times… Not high, not low… and besides love has gotten too expensive. It’s almost at a Premium.
