What are you most worried about for the future?
Some days, my mind plays a 24×7 news channel, broadcasting every ‘what if’ scenario ever invented. “What if my kids don’t eat enough vegetables? What if they turn into couch potatoes who think ‘broccoli’ is a Wi-Fi password?” The worries are real—and wildly imaginative.
But then, like a sudden Wi-Fi drop during an online sale, a thought interrupts: Why am I stressing about a future that hasn’t even RSVP’d yet?
We parents are masters of overthinking—our PhDs are in “Future Disasters That May Never Happen.” From “What if my child never learns to swim?” to “What if they end up in corporate work?” we rehearse fears like it’s opening night.
“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.” – Corrie Ten Boom
So I try to pause. I sit with my coffee (lukewarm, of course—because #momlife), look at my kids’ messy hair and crayon-covered faces, and remind myself: This is the moment I have. Right now. Not the PhD in panic I’m pursuing.
I’ve learned that laughter often cures what worry exaggerates. And trust me, nothing beats the stress like hearing your child call a cucumber “green banana.”
“Don’t borrow trouble from tomorrow. You’re already paying EMI for today.” – Me, after bedtime
Thought to ponder:
What if, instead of fearing the future, we hugged the present so tight that tomorrow had no choice but to be kind?
