Planet-Friendly Me: Chronicles of a Reformed Convenience Addict šŸŒšŸ˜…

Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?

Once upon a bin, I used to think sustainability was only for tree-hugging superheroes with bamboo toothbrushes and composting toilets. I, on the other hand, believed plastic bags were magic. You used them once and poof — they disappeared. Except… they didn’t.

Then one day, my toddler made a puppet out of a plastic bag and named it ā€œMr. Suffocatey.ā€ That was my wake-up call.

Now, I’m a proud bag lady. Jute, cloth, sometimes even a tote with motivational quotes like ā€œThis Bag Is More Loyal Than Your Ex.ā€

ā€œThe best plastic is the one you never use.ā€

I’ve become a water warrior. Brushing? Tap off. Shower? Replaced by a bucket bath. My kids now think I’m training them for a desert survival show.

ā€œEvery drop counts — it’s not just a saying, it’s a survival tip.ā€

I switch off everything now — lights, fans, even arguments. And if you leave a charger plugged in, I will give you The Look.

ā€œWasting electricity is like throwing coins into a black hole.ā€

Eating local has changed me. I now know 12 ways to cook ridge gourd and none for dragon fruit. But hey, the planet applauds.

ā€œWhat grows near you sustains you and the planet.ā€

Waste segregation has turned me into a part-time detective. ā€œIs this wrapper biodegradable or just pretending?ā€

ā€œWhen you sort waste right, the planet sleeps better at night.ā€

Shopping? I ask myself, ā€œDo I need this, or am I emotionally vulnerable in aisle 4?ā€

ā€œYou don’t need more stuff. You need less mess.ā€

I’ve become the queen of refillables. Water bottles, grocery jars, even my sarcasm — always reusable.

ā€œRefill, reuse, repeat — the triple R that actually matters.ā€

And yes, I talk about it with my kids — casually slipping in Earth-saving wisdom between bedtime stories and cookie bribes.

ā€œChange begins with one voice. Yours could echo into a movement.ā€

Thought to Ponder:
ā€œIf Earth sent us a friend request, would we accept — or keep scrolling past the damage we’ve done?ā€

Being eco-conscious isn’t about perfection — it’s about small, consistent choices, laced with love, awareness, and maybe a dash of humour. Let’s not save the planet like it’s a trend. Let’s save it like it’s our only home.
