Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?
Once upon a bin, I used to think sustainability was only for tree-hugging superheroes with bamboo toothbrushes and composting toilets. I, on the other hand, believed plastic bags were magic. You used them once and poof â they disappeared. Except… they didnât.
Then one day, my toddler made a puppet out of a plastic bag and named it âMr. Suffocatey.â That was my wake-up call.
Now, Iâm a proud bag lady. Jute, cloth, sometimes even a tote with motivational quotes like âThis Bag Is More Loyal Than Your Ex.â
âThe best plastic is the one you never use.â
I’ve become a water warrior. Brushing? Tap off. Shower? Replaced by a bucket bath. My kids now think I’m training them for a desert survival show.
âEvery drop counts â itâs not just a saying, itâs a survival tip.â
I switch off everything now â lights, fans, even arguments. And if you leave a charger plugged in, I will give you The Look.
âWasting electricity is like throwing coins into a black hole.â
Eating local has changed me. I now know 12 ways to cook ridge gourd and none for dragon fruit. But hey, the planet applauds.
âWhat grows near you sustains you and the planet.â
Waste segregation has turned me into a part-time detective. âIs this wrapper biodegradable or just pretending?â
âWhen you sort waste right, the planet sleeps better at night.â
Shopping? I ask myself, âDo I need this, or am I emotionally vulnerable in aisle 4?â
âYou donât need more stuff. You need less mess.â
I’ve become the queen of refillables. Water bottles, grocery jars, even my sarcasm â always reusable.
âRefill, reuse, repeat â the triple R that actually matters.â
And yes, I talk about it with my kids â casually slipping in Earth-saving wisdom between bedtime stories and cookie bribes.
âChange begins with one voice. Yours could echo into a movement.â
Thought to Ponder:
âIf Earth sent us a friend request, would we accept â or keep scrolling past the damage weâve done?â
Being eco-conscious isnât about perfection â itâs about small, consistent choices, laced with love, awareness, and maybe a dash of humour. Letâs not save the planet like itâs a trend. Letâs save it like itâs our only home.

Agreed! When you see how much trash convenience creates, itâs pretty awful the harm done. Wonderfully written!
