What gives you direction in life?
I often joke that my inner GPS is permanently set to “Recalculating…” Whether I’m navigating motherhood, meetings, or midlife musings, I somehow end up where I’m supposed to be — usually after taking the scenic (and slightly dramatic) route.
So what gives me direction in life?
Spoiler alert: it’s not Google Maps.
It’s the invisible compass made of chaos, chai, curiosity — and Christ.
Let me explain.
Chaos is the surprise guest at every life party. It shows up uninvited, wearing muddy shoes, knocking over the neat plans I had. Kids suddenly fall sick. Laundry becomes a mountain. Deadlines ninja-attack. And yet, somehow, chaos humbles me. It reminds me I’m not the CEO of the universe — God is. And thankfully, “God is not a God of disorder but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33). So even in the mess, there’s a divine design at work. I just can’t always see it through the spaghetti stains on my shirt.
Then comes chai. Yes, that humble, steaming cup of comfort. It’s more than a drink — it’s a sacred pause button. Amid life’s noise, chai helps me sit still. And in that stillness, I often hear God clearer than ever. Like Psalm 46:10 whispers, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Funny how a cup of tea can feel like a mini retreat with the Almighty.
Curiosity is my holy mischief. It nudges me with “What if?” and leads me into new territories — like writing this very article. What if that divine whisper isn’t my imagination but actual guidance? What if faith isn’t just sermons and Sundays, but learning, trying, failing, trusting? Even Moses was curious — he turned aside to see a burning bush. That changed everything. “When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him…” (Exodus 3:4). Direction begins when we turn aside — even just to wonder.
And then there’s Christ, the true North of my compass. In every twist, every turn, His presence is my peace. I don’t always know the plan — but I know the Planner. When life feels like walking blindfolded on Legos, I hold onto Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Straight doesn’t mean easy. It means purposeful. It means even my detours are divine.
So yes, I stumble. I forget. I cry over burnt toast. But I know who holds the map. And every morning, I wake up and whisper, “Lord, lead me,” trusting that He will — even if He occasionally uses chaos, chai, and a child’s tantrum to do it.
Thought to ponder:
Maybe direction isn’t about knowing where to go, but trusting the One who goes with you — and knowing He can turn even your zigzags into a divine masterpiece.
Now, pass the chai. I think Jesus just smiled.

Lovely! ❤️
