Ink of Love: Bold Marks and Heartfelt Memories

What tattoo do you want and where would you put it?

I’ve always believed tattoos should carry a story — a blend of meaning, memory, and a little mischief. My first tattoo, a delicate heart with an “S” nestled inside, was inked during my college days when life was a mix of dreams and daring decisions. Back then, it symbolized something I eventually left behind. Thankfully, fate saved me 😜 — my name starts with “S” too! Talk about a lucky escape!

Now, years later, I’m contemplating a second tattoo, one that isn’t just a mark of the past but a tribute to my present — my kids. A symbol of their laughter, chaos, and the endless love that fills my heart. I imagine their names in a playful, swirling font or a trio of tiny footprints walking along my forearm, each representing a little soul that has imprinted my life.

Every time I discuss this with my family, my little artist, my older one, grabs her art supplies and eagerly sketches her “temporary tattoos” on my hand. She’s convinced her doodles are all the tattoos I need. Honestly, her enthusiasm almost makes me reconsider the idea of a permanent one!

It’s more than just ink on skin; it’s a badge of motherhood — chaotic, joy-filled, overwhelming, and utterly rewarding. As they outgrow their shoes and outsmart me with their wit, they’ll always have a place etched on my skin.

“A tattoo is like a story — a snapshot of a moment that made you who you are.”

Thought to ponder: Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the ink that stays forever on our skin could also freeze time for just a little while longer?

This little ‘S’ carries a past I outgrew, yet it remains — a story I no longer tell but will never forget.
Every time she creates, I’m reminded that the most beautiful masterpieces are made with love, not perfection.
Someday, I want to ink their childhood on my skin — a permanent reminder that they are my greatest adventures.
