When Words, Colors & Creativity Kidnap Your Soul

What activities do you lose yourself in?

They say time flies when you’re having fun. But have you ever been so engrossed in something that time doesn’t just fly—it disappears? That’s the magic of losing yourself in an activity you love.

For me, three things do the trick: reading, writing, and my latest obsession—designing posters. Each one is a world of its own, yet they all share a common thread: they let me escape, create, and reflect.

Reading takes me places I’ve never been, introduces me to people I’ll never meet, and teaches me things I never knew I needed to learn. As Jorge Luis Borges said, “I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” And oh, how I wish for that kind of eternity!

Writing, on the other hand, is my way of bottling up my thoughts before they scatter like untrained toddlers in a candy store. It’s a way to make sense of chaos, to capture fleeting emotions, and sometimes, to just let my words have a little fun. After all, as Dorothy Parker quipped, “I hate writing, I love having written.”

Then there’s poster-making—a hobby I never saw coming. It’s like playing dress-up with words, giving them colors, shapes, and a life of their own. One moment, I’m tweaking fonts; the next, I’m debating if ‘blue’ feels wise enough or if ‘yellow’ is screaming too much attention.

Thought to ponder: What if the things you lose yourself in are actually the things that bring you back to life?
