Old Bonds, Fresh Laughs, and a Dash of Destiny

Who are your favorite people to be around?

They say, “Good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them, but you know they’re always there.” I couldn’t agree more. My family is my world, but my friends? They are the chaos in my otherwise structured life, the therapists I don’t pay, and the stress busters who make everything seem lighter. I have few friends, but they are my all. We could talk for 24 hours straight—maybe more, if life would allow it.

But life has a funny way of mixing things up. Moving closer to my hometown and working from home created an unexpected void. The in-person chats, the coffee dates, the spontaneous meetups—all reduced to mere virtual interactions. And my best friend? Well, she lives in another country, in a time zone that seems to exist purely to prevent us from catching up when we need it most.

Now, here’s the thing about me—I am a talker. Not just any talker, but the kind of person who, when something exciting, sad, or even mildly interesting happens, needs to share it immediately. It could be a small joy, a deep thought, or even the color of my tea that day. Silence is not my best friend—people are.

At first, it felt lonely. No weekend plans, no random drives with friends, no endless debates about whether pineapple belongs on pizza (it does, but I respect the opposition). But then, something magical happened. The universe, in its infinite wisdom, decided to grant my wish.

Enter my daughter’s mom-friend, who soon became my friend. Now, this is no ordinary friendship—this is one of those rare, serendipitous connections where you just click. She is lively, pure at heart, and wonderfully unique. She understands without explanations, listens without judgment, and laughs without reason. I often joke that the universe was in an unusually generous mood when it sent her my way.

Our conversations are a delightful mix of profound wisdom and absolute nonsense. One moment, we’re unraveling the mysteries of life, and the next, we’re passionately debating the merits of starting a YouTube channel. “Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest, but about who walked in and never left your side.” She walked into my life, and I know she’s here to stay.

Life has a way of surprising us. Just when we think we have all the love and laughter we need, it throws in a little extra, like an unexpected bonus in a paycheck. And that’s the beauty of it—friendship doesn’t always come in the form we expect, but it always arrives just when we need it the most.

A Thought to Ponder:
“Sometimes, the best friendships are not the ones we find, but the ones that find us.” Who knows? Maybe the next great friend of your life is just around the corner, waiting for the universe to work its magic.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I have recently pulled away from someone who I thought was my friend, but over time I noticed she treated me poorly out of jealousy. It’s been a little lonely, especially since my other friends live so far away, but this was reinspiring. Like a sign that the right friend for me is out there. I just haven’t met them yet
