Rewinding Life: When Nostalgia Presses Play

What makes you feel nostalgic?

Nostalgia is that unexpected guest who rings your doorbell uninvited yet is always welcome. It sneaks in with a whiff of an old book or the jingling notes of a childhood tune. Suddenly, you’re back in your mom’s kitchen, wearing mismatched socks, waiting impatiently for her to serve steaming hot dosas. “Memory is the diary we all carry about with us,” wrote Oscar Wilde, but let’s be honest, some pages are sticky with mango pulp and childish laughter.

For me, nostalgia often hides in the smell of freshly sharpened pencils and chalk dust. It’s a time machine powered by the crackling sound of old cassette tapes or the creak of a swing in my grandmother’s garden. Remember those hours spent staring at the ceiling fan, imagining it as a helicopter blade? And who can forget those glorious summer days when the biggest question was, “Can I have one more ice cream?”

“Time flies over us but leaves its shadow behind,” said Nathaniel Hawthorne. But the beauty of nostalgia isn’t just the past; it’s its ability to make the present sweeter.

Here’s a thought to ponder: Memories are the footprints of your soul, invisible yet felt with every step you take.
