From Blankets to Bucket Lists: Life Without Sleep

If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?

If you ask me whether an extra hour of sleep would make me happy, my answer is simple: Absolutely, yes! I’d be over the moon, dancing on cloud nine, and maybe even treating myself to a snooze party. But wait—what if sleep wasn’t necessary at all?

While that idea feels unimaginable (because who doesn’t love the cozy embrace of a warm blanket?), it opens the door to a world of possibilities. If I suddenly had all the time in the world, here’s how I’d fill it—spoiler alert: it’s a mix of fun, chaos, and dreams!

1. Talk My Heart Out with Friends

If sleep disappeared, I’d gather my friends and talk, talk, and talk some more—probably until they beg me to stop. Why? Because “a friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you,” and I’d use those extra hours to remind them exactly why they love me (or tolerate me).

2. Relax and Read Books

Finally, I’d have time to dive into my towering stack of books—some untouched, some half-read, and some bought just because they had pretty covers. “Books are a uniquely portable magic,” said Stephen King, and I plan to sprinkle that magic over sleepless nights.

3. Write That Long-Dreamt Book

For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamt of writing a book. If sleep became optional, I’d channel my inner author and finally weave my ideas into words. As Toni Morrison said, “If there’s a book you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” And so, I’d pour my heart into creating a story worth reading.

4. Learn Cooking (Without Burning the Kitchen)

With endless hours, I’d finally conquer the battlefield that is my kitchen. From mastering poori (and ensuring it doesn’t turn into papad) to whipping up Gobi Manchurian that rivals my husband’s, I’d explore culinary wonders. After all, “Cooking is love made visible,” and it’s about time I start showing some!

5. Create More Videos for NRJ Kids Zone

My kids’ YouTube channel, NRJ Kids Zone, deserves more love, and with extra time, I’d bring their playful ideas to life. From funny skits to DIY crafts, our videos would become “little footprints on the sands of creativity.” Who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll be the next big thing!

6. Swim Like a Mermaid

If I didn’t need to sleep, you’d find me gliding through the water at the swimming pool, channeling my inner mermaid. Swimming is my fitness therapy, and as they say, “Just keep swimming,” even when sleep isn’t an excuse to stop.

7. Travel the World

Lastly, I’d pack my bags, leave my worries behind, and embark on adventures. Watching sunrises on beaches, soaking in serene forests, or getting lost in bustling cities—because “life is short, and the world is wide.” Extra hours mean extra memories!

To be honest, though, as exciting as this sounds, I can’t imagine a life without sleep. It’s my ultimate escape—a time machine to tomorrow, a cozy retreat, and the sweetest gift of rest. But hey, until science makes sleep optional, let me dream about how I’d spend my sleepless hours… preferably while wrapped up in my blanket!
