Plates Full, Hearts Fuller

What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

They say, “A family that eats together stays together.” If that’s true, our family is practically glued together by our love for food—especially anything with chicken! From the aromatic chicken curry paired with crispy rice rotti (Kori Rotti) to the smoky perfection of chilli chicken and the irresistible Chicken Uruwal, we relish every bite. Let’s not forget the crown jewel of any feast—biriyani! The aroma of spices, tender chicken, and perfectly cooked basmati rice is enough to unite even the busiest of schedules.

But our ultimate favorite meal is when my husband prepares his special mutton chops. The kids adore it and eagerly wait for their dad to don the chef’s hat. Once it’s served, it’s like a race to the finish line—before you know it, the bowl is empty, leaving behind only the lingering aroma and happy faces. As the saying goes, “The fondest memories are made when gathered around the table,” and my husband’s mutton chops are at the heart of many of ours.

Even the occasional KFC bucket brings cheers and finger-licking joy to our table. “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well,” and we certainly dine like royalty with our culinary favorites.

Our love for food doesn’t stop there. A golden, perfectly spiced fish fry often steals the spotlight. The sizzling sound and inviting aroma of fish in the pan make it hard to resist. I’ve often joked that if fish fry were a currency, our family would be millionaires!

And then there’s our humble hero: dal, rice, and a fluffy omelette. Simple yet comforting, it’s the meal that brings us together on busy days when all we need is warmth and familiarity. As someone said, “Good food is the foundation of genuine happiness,” and our simple meals are proof of that.

Mealtime in our home isn’t just about eating; it’s about bonding, laughter, and the joy of sharing. After all, what’s life without a little food, fun, and family togetherness? Or as I like to say, “Happiness is served fresh…with a side of biriyani!”

  1. If chicken is your family thing, then the ‘humble potato 🥔’ is mine. Our love for potatoes is genuine. If there’s a dish made with potatoes in it, everyone goes for the potatoes and the gravy, the main ingredient remains the last to be consumed (chicken/beef).
    We’re the potato🥔 family 😂😂😂
