Fur-ever Friends: Pure Everlasting Treasure

What is good about having a pet?

“Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.” Having a pet, especially a dog, brings a special kind of joy, humor, and wisdom into life. Though I don’t currently have a pet, I dream of owning two dogs again one day. Growing up with two incredible dogs, Roy and Tiger, I know firsthand the magic they bring. Every day, they followed me to the bus stand like loyal guards, and the moment I came home, they’d race to greet me with unmatched excitement. “No one loves you as a dog loves you.”

Roy and Tiger were my therapists, patient listeners, and joyful companions. I’d pour out my feelings, and they’d simply listen, their warm eyes seeming to understand every word. “Sometimes the best medicine has fur and four paws.” Their presence taught me friendship without expectations, how to be a good listener, to live in the moment, and to find happiness even on lazy days. I learned that being there, even in silence, is sometimes the best way to show love. They kept my mind healthy, filling my life with a unique joy that only a pet can bring.

Sometimes, in those moments of classic “Indian mom” frustration, when my kids’ antics leave me infuriated, I can’t help but say, “I wish Roy and Tiger were here! They’d listen to me better than you do!” It’s funny but true—those two furry friends never once rolled their eyes, argued back, or pretended not to hear me. They’d just sit there, nodding along as if every word I said was the most important thing in the world.

“Dogs may not be our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” Today, I miss them deeply but carry their lessons in my heart.

Here’s to pets: our ever-loving, tiny friends who fill life with laughter, unconditional love, and endless warmth.
