The Invisible Fence

They never taught us this in school,
How to be kind and still be whole.
So we gave, and gave, and gave again,
Calling exhaustion “love” in disguise.

Boundaries aren’t walls made out of fear,
They are windows we open with care.
Curtains drawn when the noise is loud,
Space to breathe without guilt or doubt.

A kind heart without limits bleeds,
Not loudly—slowly, in unseen ways.
Words, like in The Book Thief, can heal,
Or bruise the soul they meant to save.

Family love doesn’t demand your silence,
Friendship needn’t live on emotional overtime.
Work should never borrow your sleep,
Or price your worth in burnout signs.

Unspoken limits grow resentment,
Smiling hides the heaviest weight.
Mental peace needs room to rest,
Not constant traffic at its gate.

Set the fence—soft, unseen, firm,
So love can stay and not feel forced.
If peace keeps breaking to please others,
Who is protecting you, at last? 🌱

Thought to Ponder

If you don’t protect your emotional space, who will?
And if your peace keeps breaking to keep others comfortable—
is that kindness… or quiet self-abandonment?
