My Life Without a Computer – A Curious Throwback

Your life without a computer: what does it look like?

If computers suddenly vanished from my life, the first impact would be on my work. Since my job revolves around screens, emails, and endless tabs, I’d probably stare at my desk for a while wondering, “Now what?” No quick reports, no online meetings, no late-night Excel struggles—part of me would panic, but another part would secretly sigh in relief.

I’d go back to pen and paper, scribbling notes and drawing messy arrows that only I could decode. Instead of typing hundreds of words a minute, I’d feel the weight of each word written by hand—slow, yet oddly satisfying. Maybe even my handwriting would finally get the attention it has been begging for.

Without computers, my kids would see more of my face and less of my screen. Evenings wouldn’t be about me catching up on work emails but about board games, storytelling, or simply watching the sky change colors. Social media wouldn’t lure me into scrolling; instead, I’d pick up books, write letters, or maybe just talk to people without emojis.

Of course, I’d miss Google rescuing me every time I forget a recipe or an answer to my child’s sudden “Why” question. But perhaps, in the absence of instant answers, I’d learn to pause and admit, “Let’s find out together.”

As someone once said, “Sometimes losing a tool helps us find ourselves.”

Thought to ponder: Without computers, would my world shrink, or would it actually expand into the spaces I’ve been ignoring?
