What brands do you associate with?
The world today runs on logos, labels, and hashtags. People proudly wear them, flaunt them, and sometimes even fight over them. “You’re not drinking that coffee?!” or “Oh, your bag isn’t from that collection?”—suddenly, your identity is measured not by your kindness, intelligence, or sense of humor but by the stitching of your handbag.
But here’s my truth: I don’t associate with any brand. Not because I’m against them, but because I like the idea of being brand-free, like a breeze on a Sunday morning—refreshing, unnoticed, yet essential.
Once, a friend asked me, “Is your watch Apple or Fossil?” I smiled and said, “It’s time that matters, not the logo ticking on my wrist.” She rolled her eyes, but hey, my point stood strong.
Another time, my daughter spotted her friend’s fancy shoes and demanded the same. I told her gently, “Sweetheart, Cinderella’s shoe wasn’t branded, yet it made her a princess.” She giggled, but it planted a seed.
Sometimes, I do feel left out in conversations that revolve around “Did you see the new iPhone?” or “I just bought a Gucci wallet.” That’s when I nod, sip my tea, and mentally calculate whether my grocery list will survive inflation. Priorities, right?
As Oscar Wilde once said, “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” I like to think I’m building my own brand—made of quirks, laughter, scars, lessons, and the occasional chocolate stain on my shirt. A brand that doesn’t need a tagline because it simply exists.
If people ask me what brand I associate with, I’d say, “Kindness—it never goes out of style.”
And maybe that’s what life needs more of. Not brands that fade in seasons, but values that last through generations.
✨ Thought to Ponder:
In a world obsessed with labels, isn’t it ironic that the only label that truly matters—human—is the one we forget to honor the most?
