What do you enjoy most about writing?
They say some people collect stamps, others collect coins. I, on the other hand, collect words. Writing for me is not a hobby, it’s a love affair—messy at times, magical most of the time.
What do I enjoy most about writing? Everything. The brainstorming feels like standing at the edge of a buffet table where the dishes are ideas, and I have no limit to my plate. Creativity, meanwhile, is the dessert counter—sweet, sometimes a little too much, but always worth the indulgence.
“Writing is easy. You just open a vein and bleed.” — Red Smith.
Now, I don’t exactly bleed, but yes, sometimes my keyboard clacks so hard it feels like my nerves are typing directly onto the screen.
Editing? Oh, editing is like sending your child to school—you know they need discipline, but a part of you whispers, “Don’t cut too much hair!” Yet, with every draft, I see my writing stand a little taller, like a well-ironed shirt.
And then comes the joy of finishing. That quiet, smug happiness of telling yourself, “Look, I made something out of thin air and coffee!” It’s the kind of satisfaction no online shopping cart can ever provide.
Another secret joy: Writing gives me a superpower. The power to time travel (back to childhood memories), teleport (to beaches, forests, or even Mars), and transform (becoming the heroine, villain, or the wise grandmother all at once).
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” — William Wordsworth.
And truly, every page feels like a mirror that shows not just what I think, but who I am.
💡 Thought to Ponder:
We often ask, “What can writing give me?” But perhaps the real question is, “What can I give to writing?” Because when we respect the pen, it doesn’t just write stories—it writes us into better versions of ourselves.
