Blessed: The Emotion That Outshines All Others

What positive emotion do you feel most often?

If you ask me what positive emotion I feel most often, my answer might surprise you—it’s not joy, not excitement, not even love (though I feel all of these). It’s blessed. Yes, you heard it right. Blessed is not just a Sunday-word or something you see captioned under a selfie with perfect lighting. It is my daily companion, my quiet strength, and sometimes, my loud laughter in the middle of life’s chaos.

Life hasn’t exactly handed me a neatly wrapped gift box with a bow on top. It has thrown its fair share of storms, detours, and “you’ve got to be kidding me” moments. Yet, in every one of those situations, I’ve found myself whispering, “I am blessed.” Why? Because I didn’t walk through those storms alone.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me” (Psalm 28:7).

Feeling blessed doesn’t mean life is perfect. Far from it. It means noticing the crumbs of grace scattered everywhere—a child’s laughter, a mother’s prayer, a friend’s timely call, or even a hot cup of coffee that magically appears just when patience is about to vanish. “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17), and sometimes those gifts wear everyday disguises.

To be blessed is to know that even when my strength fails, God’s doesn’t. It’s the emotion that doesn’t get shaken by exam results, traffic jams, or burnt chapatis (though those test the limits). It anchors me. It reminds me that gratitude, not grumbling, is the best soundtrack for life.

💭 Thought to ponder: If being “blessed” is less about what we have and more about who holds us, then maybe we are already richer than we think.
