What’s your go-to comfort food?
There are days when life feels like a pressure cooker without a whistle—hissing, chaotic, and about to blow. On such days, I don’t seek therapy, yoga, or long walks. I open the rice container.
My go-to comfort food? A humble trio that never lets me down—rice, dal, omelette, and a cheeky wink of pickle. It’s not just food; it’s edible therapy. The rice fluffs up like a gentle hug, the dal flows like kind words, and the omelette? That’s my protein-packed best friend doing a belly flop into the pool of comfort.
Add pickle—a spicy little rebel reminding me that life needs a punch of madness.
“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.” – Alan D. Wolfelt.
And trust me, on emotionally taxing days, I’m not saying much—I’m chewing.
This plate is a memory museum too. Mom’s rainy-day lunch, college hostel nostalgia, post-midnight hunger pangs, or quiet Sundays when the world is asleep—every spoon is a throwback.
And then, of course, there are biryani days. Because when the emotional storm goes Category 5, you need reinforcements—fragrant rice, battle-hardened spices, and that magical smoky hug that says, “You’ve got this, soldier.”
“Stress cannot survive in a biryani’s aroma,” says me, every time I open that hot vessel.
So next time your soul feels out of battery, don’t rush to recharge. Just plate up your version of edible love.
Thought to ponder: Maybe the answer to life’s problems isn’t in the stars… but in the spices simmering in your kitchen.
