How do you practice self-care?
Self-care isn’t always bubble baths and yoga at sunrise. Sometimes, it’s just about pausing and telling yourself, “You matter.” It’s not about being perfect—it’s about being real. These are my oddly wonderful, simple ways to stay sane and happy. No fancy routines, just small moments that feel like home.
1. Dance Like Wi-Fi’s Watching, But You Don’t Care
I throw impromptu solo dance parties in my living room, usually while dusting. My playlist jumps from bhajans to Beyoncé. Therapy? No, it’s thumka-apy.
“If your soul isn’t sweating, is it even self-care?”
2. Talk to My Plants in Multiple Accents
British for the money plant, South Indian English for the tulsi. I swear they giggle at me. It’s weirdly grounding.
“Grow through what you go through—sometimes in a fake London accent.”
3. Invent a Mood-Based Menu
Sad? Maggi. Angry? Crunchy chips. Blissful? Ice cream with sprinkles. No feelings? Toast.
“Eat your feelings, but make it a well-balanced buffet.”
4. Re-read Old Birthday Cards Like Sacred Texts
Some were handmade. Some had glitter. All remind me I mattered to someone enough to buy stationery.
“Your younger self left you love notes. Don’t forget to read them.”
5. Make the Mirror My Therapist
I look deep into my tired eyes and say, “It’s okay, darling. You’re doing human perfectly.” (Then tweeze my eyebrows.)
“Be the shoulder you cry on. Also, check your side profile. It’s cute.”
6. Nap Like I’m on a Time Travel Mission
I call it “recharging my soul device.” 23 minutes. No alarms. Just trust.
“Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is drool on your pillow.”
7. Write Dramatic Letters to My Future Self
“Dear 2030 me, hope you’re not still stalking people on Instagram. Also, remember that evening walk? Do it more.”
“If journaling is whispering, letter-writing is yelling lovingly into time.”
8. Unfollow People Who Make Me Feel Meh
Real life or social media—if you drain me, you’re voted off my island of peace.
“Protect your vibe like it’s the last coconut at a beach party.”
9. Stargaze and Pretend I’m a Philosophical Astronaut
I sit on my balcony and whisper big thoughts to the moon, like, “Does the universe ever get overwhelmed?”
“Some nights, silence is the only friend who doesn’t interrupt.”
10. Schedule Worry Appointments
I give myself 15 minutes a day to worry. Beyond that, my brain has to book a slot for tomorrow.
“Anxieties need boundaries too. Otherwise, they become squatters.”
💭 Thought to Ponder:
“In a world rushing for more, maybe real self-care is choosing less—less pressure, less comparison, less noise, more you.”
And if all else fails—remember: you’re not a mess; you’re a mosaic of moments trying to shine. ✨
