What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?
There it sits—worn at the edges, the cover faded like an old photograph, pages wrinkled with wisdom and watermarks from tears (and spilled coffee). No leather-bound luxury, no gold-embossed modern upgrade—just my humble Bible, the oldest thing I own and the most used object in my daily existence. It’s not just a book. It’s a lifeline, a time machine, a moral GPS with no need for charging.
Some people start their day with the newspaper. I start mine with the Good News—capital G, capital N.
While others scroll, I turn pages. While others post, I pause.
In a world screaming “Update available!”, my Bible quietly whispers, “Truth never needs a patch.”
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105
(Also known as ancient torchlight with zero battery issues.)
Over the years, it has seen me through heartbreaks, hard days, hilarious parenting fails, and hopeful new beginnings. It has yellowed, but it has never grown old. In fact, the more I read it, the younger my soul feels.
My Bible is full of highlighters that have run dry, bookmarks that were once bills, and scribbled margins where I argue with God in a rather one-sided conversation. If someone were to read those notes, they’d find questions like:
“Really, God? That was the plan?”
“Is this about patience again? Ugh.”
“Thanks for yesterday. Also, help!”
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” – Psalm 119:11
(Also doubles as the original version of “keep your passwords safe.”)
Sometimes, when I flip to a verse, it feels like my Bible is smirking at me, saying, “Oh, you’re back. And I see you brought that mess with you again. Let’s talk.”
It’s like my personal therapist that never sends a bill, my life coach that doesn’t need a fancy LinkedIn profile, and my cheerleader that doesn’t wear pom-poms but packs a punch of peace.
If items could talk, mine would probably say, “Enough with the sticky notes already! Just read me!”
And I do. Every single day.
Because this ancient book knows me better than any smart device or algorithm.
It doesn’t track my steps—it guides them.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” – Matthew 24:35
(That’s God’s way of saying, “I’m not going anywhere.”)
Thought to Ponder:
In a world constantly pressing ‘refresh’, maybe the real refresh lies in something that never changes. What if the oldest thing in your life is also the wisest whisper you keep ignoring?
So yes, I still use my Bible daily. Not because I’m holy. But because I’m human. And this, my friend, is the only “manual” I own where, no matter how broken I am, the author is always available for live support. 📖💬✨
