Do you have any collections?
“Collect things you love. That way, when life flips the pages, your memories will never feel bankrupt.”
As a child, I was a proud curator of tiny treasures—stamps and coins from across the globe. My collection looked less like a hobby and more like a secret museum of forgotten times. A Russian coin sat beside a faded Bhutanese stamp as if they’d just shared tea and gossip. Each piece held a story—some factual, most wildly imagined by my younger self.
“Behind every stamp is a journey. Behind every coin, a tale of hands it’s passed through.”
I remember once showing off a worn Italian coin to a friend, proudly declaring it was cursed because every time I saved it, I’d lose another coin. Turns out I just had a hole in my piggy bank. Minor detail.
But then adulthood barged in with its rent receipts and laundry piles. I grew up, swapped my stamp albums for Google Docs, and gave my coins a nostalgic salute before tucking them away in a box I now call “The Vault of Forgotten Awesomeness.”
Today, my collection has evolved. I hoard stories—digitally. My Kindle is my new chest of treasures. No dusting required, no shelf space needed. Though I still dream of a cozy reading nook, I’ve realized it’s not the space but the spirit of collecting that truly matters.
“Collections don’t clutter your life; they decorate your soul.”
Thought to ponder: Are we really collecting things… or are we collecting moments of who we were when we found them?
