If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?
Interesting question. If I had the power to change one law, I would rewrite the tax policy!
I work hard for a full month, dedicating my energy, sacrificing time with family, skipping weekend naps, and surviving endless meetings. Then, salary day arrives—joy, relief… until I check the payslip. BAM! Tax deducted. Suddenly, my dreams of a guilt-free shopping spree shrink to a budget-friendly window-shopping trip.
Mark Twain once said, “The only difference between a taxman and a taxidermist is that the taxidermist leaves the skin.”
I mean, I understand taxes are necessary for the country’s development, but why must they feel like a legalized daylight robbery? The more you earn, the more they take—it’s like a reward for working hard is… working harder.
If I had the power, I’d introduce:
“Happiness Allowance” – The first chunk of your salary should be tax-free. Let people enjoy their earnings before they fund bridges they may never drive on.
“Broken Promises Tax” – Remember when politicians promised fewer taxes? If they backtrack, boom! They pay us. (Tax on the taxman—sounds fair, right?)
“Instant Karma Tax” – If tax refunds are delayed, the government pays us interest. (Because why should only we suffer waiting?)
As George Bernard Shaw put it, “A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.”
Thought to Ponder: “What if tax was like a gym subscription—you only pay for what you actually use?”
